Rabbit and Small Mammal Services
Why Choose Shai’s Pet Styles for your rabbit?
While working at a dog boarding / grooming facility I was asked by a few clients if we did rabbits, at the time I thought it couldn’t be very difficult, but didn’t end up booking any rabbits. It planted a bug in my ear though, and when I decided I was going to open my own salon I knew I wanted to offer rabbit services, but I also wanted to do it right. I started researching into rabbit and small mammal grooming and came across courses by Anjie Coates, a master rabbit groomer who has done hundreds of rabbits in her career. I immediately bought her book and started setting aside funds to take her classes. Her first course has already taught me so much about rabbits demeanor and their care and proper handling and I am so excited to continue to learn. Looking back I am grateful I never booked a rabbit at my last salon, the barking and multiple groomers working would have been very stressful for a prey animal and its not something I would ever want to put one through.
Shai’s Pet Styles is the perfect set up to do small mammal grooming. Because of the 1:1 grooming that I do, there are no dogs or cats present during the time of your bunny’s appointment making a calm and soothing environment for them.
I will NEVER trance your rabbit either. Trancing causes a lot of stress to a rabbit as it is a defense mechanism they would use in the wild to trick a predator into thinking they are carrion, or long deceased causing the predator to drop them and giving them a chance to escape. This increases the rabbits heart rate, and breathing pace and can cause heart attack or death.
Because I work without an assistant I do require owners stay present during their rabbits groom to help soothe/pet the rabbit while I work. Rabbits really enjoy being groomed but because of being a prey animal are skittish and easy to scare, so constant soothing/petting is the best way to keep them calm and comfortable while in a new or unfamiliar environment.
Rabbit Grooming Services
* I do offer partial bath services for rabbits with poopy butt. This will be a charge of $50 as poopy butt most likely will have urine or fecal scald on the skin underneath and requires multiple skin treatments to soothe and offer the best chance of recovery. Owner will be required to sign a bathing/poopy butt release form prior to this service. *
